The apartment is central but sits off a quiet street, with restaurants, cafes and other places to eat within walking distance. The port and tour points are nearby too, making it a handy base for exploring Madeira at a reasonable cost. The room was clean and larger than most. There’s no reception, and you collect the keys from a secure box.
Don’t believe what’s reported. If I could publish the material I photographed during my vacation in early August 2024, these apartments would deserve to be closed. Our stay was ruined by a total lack of cleanliness, with ANIMALS ON THE STOVE. I’d call it anarchy. Instead of worrying about thorough cleaning, the owner advised us to find somewhere else to stay, saying that cleanliness standards differ. But dirt and the stench of piss are the same in Italy and Madeira. Let’s remember that.
The double room is pleasant and not expensive, with a balcony that stays in the shade. That does mean the room feels cold and dark inside. The location is great, right in the lively city centre.
We had a great stay in the attic duplex. It’s well soundproofed, welcoming, and thoughtfully equipped for two, with air conditioning, mosquito nets, and even a washing machine that wasn’t listed on Booking.com. The staff were very friendly, and the location is central. For parking, we found the La Vie shopping centre lot about 300 metres away convenient. It cost €10 a day, had spaces available, and its turns were much easier on the car. The bakery at the shopping centre entrance also makes excellent homemade rissois.
A lovely apartment in a handy spot for exploring on foot. It could have been cleaner, though.
