The staff were excellent and reception was kind when I asked to move rooms, but I had a rough stay. My first floor room was noisy at night from the restaurant, which was understandable since it closes at midnight, but then there was an annoying beep from somewhere in the kitchen all night. I moved to the top floor on the second night. The room was better, but on my last night someone hammered until 11pm. I couldn't understand why, and guests deserve some respect. The cleaning lady was strange, to say the least, and came to clean at 5pm. On my last evening, I went out to do laundry and returned more than an hour later to find my door wide open. My 2000 euro camera, 700 euro lens, iPad and little MacBook I use to back up pictures were all inside, completely exposed. Thankfully nothing was stolen, but I was VERY lucky. There are no cameras in the hallways. Maybe it was luck because my room was in the corner with just one room across from it, and those guests were out, or maybe a guardian angel, but I still have nightmares about it. You expect cleaning staff to be safe around your things. It was really unpleasant. I'd suggest visiting the island on a cruise so you can leave the same night and avoid dealing with this.

It's an affordable, clean place in the heart of madeira, with really friendly staff. This was my second visit, this time with my little 2,5 years old boy, and we had another great experience. Nothing to complain about. Room service was perfect. Just keep in mind it's not a brand new building. If that doesn't bother you, go ahead.

The staff showed no care or accountability, and the hygiene was unacceptable. I booked eight days in Madeira with my girlfriend, and this became the worst hotel stay of my life. The rooms were neglected and in terrible condition. You could hear every noise from across the building as though there were no walls. Ants were already in our room on the first night. At 07:30 the next morning I went to reception, advertised as 24/7, and found a man asleep behind the desk. He seemed confused and barely awake. There was no apology, solution or professionalism. He did use a toxic spray in our room for the ants, but it didn't work. On the stairs I also saw a huge cockroach. The second night there were ants everywhere again, plus a child screaming at the top of their lungs for hours, as if something terrible was happening. I went to reception again and the receptionist was asleep again. When I woke him, he said it was “not his responsibility” and did nothing. After I insisted the following day, they finally changed our room. The room on the 5th floor had a balcony and more space, but it came with a strong, disgusting bathroom odor, a broken door handle, and an elevator that was out of order for an entire day. We never felt taken seriously as guests. I strongly advise people to stay away unless they enjoy insects, noise, broken facilities and staff who don't care. From the first moment, this place didn't even feel like a hotel.

The staff were so friendly that the place felt like home, and we really enjoyed our stay. It’s easy to walk to Funchal’s main sights from here, and the price felt like great value. Our room was clean and comfortable, with towels and bedding replenished whenever we needed them. We also liked having a terrace to spend the evenings on. Breakfast was very basic, just bread, ham and cheese, but there are plenty of nearby places to get something else.

Breakfast was the main letdown: it was the same each day, with no fruit, vegetables or tea. Luckily, there’s a supermarket just down the street. The hotel is a budget friendly choice in a great location. We found the room cozy, with a spacious balcony, and housekeeping changed the towels daily. We arrived early and had a short wait for check in, which we spent on the rooftop terrace. It has seating, sunbeds, a shared living room and a bathroom, plus lovely views over the houses. We didn’t need parking, though from our room the lot looked like it had maybe five spaces. Nights were fairly manageable, but hallway noise carried clearly. The large balconies seem to be only on the first floor, where our room was.
