The terrace is extensive, and you can also dine inside the historic 18th-century casa. The restaurant and bar feel smart but casual, set in the huge, lovely gardens of the magnificent Quinta da Casa Branca. The gourmet menu comes with carefully matched wines, and the prices are good value. Nothing else nearby comes close, so it’s well worth seeking out.

We had a great stay. The apartment was spotless, well looked after, and equipped with everything a house needs to be comfortable. There’s a private terrace area with a view over the city, plus a garage, so parking wasn’t something we had to worry about. The hospitality and service were impeccable. Whether the location suits you depends on your plans. It’s a little far from Funchal if you want to be close to town, but it’s incredibly convenient for reaching the main road and heading out on excursions. That was the point of our trip, so it worked really well for us. I highly recommend it!

The apartment we booked came with a pool and a fantastic view of Funchal. The host was incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the holiday apartment itself was very nice and reasonably priced. The furnishings are functional.
