The Vine Hotel

We chose the Vine hotel for our anniversary and felt special throughout our stay. The staff were polite and incredibly helpful, and nothing seemed too much trouble. The room was spacious and high-tech, breakfast was superb, and the location in Funchal was perfect. We were really impressed with the quality of the hotel.

The gym was good, and the spa was excellent, with a jacuzzi and a relaxation area that we were glad to have. We couldn’t use the nice-looking roof terrace because of storm Emelia and the terrible weather. The staff stayed friendly, helpful, and good-humoured despite it all. The room was a good size, with enough plug sockets and decent lighting, though figuring out the lights was a bit of a challenge at first. Breakfast selection and cocktails were superb. My only small complaint is that the pillows were very unsupportive, but that’s a minor thing in an otherwise really great hotel, right in central Funchal near all the sights.

The pool area has a truly beautiful view, and breakfast was very good. Still, I didn’t sleep well, and getting a good night’s rest is the main thing I look for in a hotel. The design just wasn’t for me. I know the hotel has won many design awards, but I found the look and layout impractical. It’s an interesting place to see, though if functionality and a restful night matter most to you, it may not be the best fit.

The rooms were clean and spacious, and the staff were welcoming and ready to help with any issues. Breakfast was great, and the rooftop pool and bar had a fantastic view. There’s parking for guests, and it’s easy to walk around the city from the hotel.
