Vitorina Corte Guesthouse

The guest house was very helpful in arranging my week-long stay, and I’d happily return. I stayed in Uncle’s Room and Grace’s Room. Breakfast was really good, with fresh fruit, eggs made how you like them, and homemade cake. The location is perfect on the edge of the old town, right by restaurants and the sea for swimming. The cathedral, market, and cable car are all within walking distance.

We had a kind welcome from the host, and the hotel has free parking for guests, which was a big plus. It’s next to one of Funchal’s churches and very close to the yellow street. Our room didn’t have an ocean view, but it was the nicest one, with a private bathroom and a large terrace of its own, furnished with sun loungers, a table, and chairs. Inside there was a TV, fridge, kettle, and hair dryer. There’s also a shared canteen and a pleasant little garden to walk around.

Marta welcomed us when we arrived, checked us in, and showed us around the property. The next morning Fabiano made a lovely breakfast with fresh local fruit, fresh bolo de caco, yogurt cake, mango juice, and scrambled eggs. Our room was spacious, the bathroom had recently been remodeled, and we had a balcony with a lovely view. The house has antiques from the original owners and old pictures of the area. It’s a great spot for exploring, with lots of restaurants within a five-minute walk. Staff were always happy to suggest restaurants, tour operators, and other things. Augustino also got us to the airport promptly with the early morning shuttle. This was our first trip outside the US, and Vitorina Corte Guesthouse turned out far better than we’d imagined. We picked it for its historic feel, reasonable prices, and great reviews, and it didn’t disappoint.

The rooms were very clean, and the price was really good. The location is ideal, right downtown, with free parking on Lazareto street about a five-minute walk away. The host welcomed us warmly, check-in went smoothly, and the owner was always around to help and clearly cared about her guests. There are connecting doors between rooms, though, so we could hear people in the other bedrooms, including someone who was sick and a baby. The A/C wasn’t fully working, but she said she’d be installing bigger units soon. Don’t hesitate to go!
