Hotel Ílhavo Plaza

The underground parking worked perfectly, and breakfast had a huge selection of excellent quality. Customer service was excellent too. There was some building work going on at one part of the property, though. I'd definitely recommend staying here and expect I'll return.

The rooms were clean, comfortable, and quite nice, and breakfast was great. One issue was the gym and spa: they’re shared with the gym, so people who aren't hotel guests can use the facilities. There was even a pool class happening when we went. The spa could have been better. Aside from that, we had a great stay in the rooms and at breakfast.

We were glad to find coffee available on tap, especially as North American travelers who hadn't come across it in three weeks. The included breakfast was lovely, and the staff were accommodating while following covid protocols. Our renovated room was clean and comfortable, and we liked the pool area, though unsupervised children had taken it over. The location wasn't where I'd hoped when I booked, but with a car it was only 10 minutes to the beach or canals. Worth a stop.

The whole stay was awful, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, not even my enemies. We booked a night away from the kids to get some rest, but loud music from what sounded like a party at the outdoor pool made that impossible. We hadn't been told about it. I also asked for rose petals on the bed and found fabric ones that looked reused across different beds and guests. That felt completely unhygienic. When we turned on the whirlpool bath, a lot of rubbish came out of the system. In the morning, my partner cut her finger on loose pool stairs. We reported it at reception and were told they'd take note so it wouldn't happen to anyone else, but nothing was said about my wife. The breakfast had nothing vegan for her. When we asked, the waiter offered lactose-free milk, as if that were a joke. I had requested the hotel arrange natural-looking red roses from a local florist to be waiting on the bed. They arrived wrapped in plastic, paper, and green material, which wasn't environmentally friendly. When I complained at reception, I was told I had to pay 25 euros. The staff were rude, and I can't understand how this place has four stars. I've stayed in better hostels.
