The room had a frosted-glass window, so there was no view and little natural light. The bathroom was separated by a very thin wall, and there was a constant unpleasant smell from the drain. The main entrance key card didn't work, so we had to call the host each evening to let us in, three times altogether. He never offered to replace it. The welcome was cold. The male host seemed tired, distant, and not in the mood to deal with guests. His wife, to be fair, was kind and polite. That chilly atmosphere continued through all three days. If it had happened once, I might have thought he was having a bad day, but they never asked how we were or whether everything was okay. I rarely leave negative reviews. During our time in Madeira, my girlfriend and I stayed in four other places, all wonderful, easily 9-10/10. This one was more like a 2/10. Sadly, I wouldn't recommend it, because of the lack of hospitality rather than the facilities.

Dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant were both excellent. The grilled octopus and tomato salad were especially tasty, and the wine they recommended was fantastic. We had room 23, the cheapest option, which was clean and very nice, with a little fridge, though it had no ocean view. The beds were the most comfortable of all the places we stayed on the island. The hotel is in a quiet, remote village, and you can walk down to see the ocean, but we didn't find any nearby beach access. I definitely recommend this place.

The huge balcony had a really nice view, and our suite for one night was spacious, clean, and fresh. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was okay, but go early, since they don't refill everything once it runs out. Otherwise, this would've been five stars.

The staff were friendly and the facilities were great. We spent a few nights in the suite, which was great, with a huge room and an equally big balcony. Breakfast at their restaurant was alright. It was a great experience overall, and I'd strongly suggest booking the suite if you can.
