B&B Herdade dos Frades

We had a great time. The rooms are very large and have a view, and the breakfast spread was huge. It’s peaceful here, yet Dona Ana Beach is just 10 minutes away.

We were here in the second week of April and had sunny weather with a pleasant temperature. The center of Lagos is only a few minutes away by car, and there are lovely walking areas nearby. This is a fantastic place to return to, highly recommended. The B&B is quiet and spacious, with a comfortable bed, a lovely shower, and an outdoor sitting area just outside the room. The pool is fantastic, with plenty of sunbeds and places to sit around it. We could use the garden barbecue on request, and the food was delicious. The owner, Tedde, was hospitable and gave us helpful local tips. Breakfast was extensive and delicious, with some lovely surprise snacks.

This was our first visit, and if we come back to this area, it definitely won’t be our last. Others have covered most of the details already, but the location deserves a mention. It’s a wonderfully restful spot on one of the hills near Lagos, where you can breathe in the calm and catch a glimpse of Lagos and the sea between the hills. The building is all on one level, yet its design gives the interiors a lot of height. That sense of space comes through in the large guest rooms with private terraces as well as the shared areas. It all feels very atmospheric. One last thing: Tedde heard we had to leave in the middle of the night for an early flight and immediately offered to put together a takeaway breakfast. When we picked it up and opened the screen door for the last time, we noticed her phone and iPad on the table marked "TEDDE'S" outside by the sliding door. Previous guests will know the spot. She was busy getting some sleep, so maybe she’d forgotten them, I don’t know. To us, that little scene captured the relaxed, carefree feeling of Herdade dos Frades. The angry, hectic outside world seems a long way off here. Bram and Dawn
