Ocean view Hostel

The accommodation itself was good, but I’m giving it one star because of Oscar, the African Grey Parrot. He’s kept in a small, filthy cage and looks in terrible condition. His feathers are broken, dirty, and frayed, and the food and water bowl was filthy too. The photos speak for themselves. I raised my concerns with management, who said he was well looked after, but seeing Oscar and his cage, I don’t believe that. Shame on the owners for keeping a bird like this.

I felt really unwelcome and uncomfortable because of the owners’ aggressive way of communicating. I asked if I could leave my luggage an hour before the official check-in, and the host reacted with a lot of anger. Instead of trying to help, they made me feel stupid. This was very different from the rest of my incredible experience in Portugal, and left a really bad aftertaste at the end of my trip.

The warm atmosphere and lovely, helpful staff made our six-night stay really enjoyable. There are several free public parking spots right by the fence, with more across the street. The place set a very high bar for accommodation and is definitely among the best we’ve stayed at in the last seven years of travelling. It was especially good for remote work, with five separate quiet areas that have tables, seating, and good wifi coverage.

Magda was very friendly and accommodating, and helped us plan our days. The whole Oceanview Lagos Hostel/Hotel was spotless. We were a couple in our late 30s, and found the common areas spacious and great for relaxing or meeting other guests. There’s a full kitchen with everything you need, plus free coffee, filtered water, and muffins each day. The nearest large chain grocery store is about a 15-minute walk away. After long days walking and visiting places, the pool was a huge bonus for cooling off and unwinding. The pool area and rooftop terrace were the highlight for us. Rooms are clean and have exactly what you need for a comfortable night’s sleep. The Old City is about 15 minutes away. We liked staying in this cosy, quiet part of town, and really enjoyed our stay. I’d recommend it to anyone in the area.
