Booking was easy, and messaging the hosts Mario & Palmira through Booking was straightforward. They welcomed us so warmly it felt like coming home after a long trip. They were lively and friendly enough to push an introvert like me out of my comfort zone for a moment, but I soon felt at home. There are just two rooms, so it’s quiet and private, though both share the balcony. The hosts introduced us to the other guests, and we ended up having a lovely evening chatting together outside while still getting plenty of time alone. Our room was spacious, bright, and spotless, as was the bathroom. They’d thought of lots of comfort details: plenty of fresh towels in different sizes, two great pillows with different firmness, towels and bedding changed during the week, a nonslip bath mat, table and chairs, sun loungers, and a drying rack on the balcony. Guests can also use the hosts’ modern kitchen for coffee or tea, storing food in the fridge, and using the dishes and cutlery. Breakfast was our best in the Azores so far, and we’re now on our second island. Mario served a great selection of local cheeses, and Palmira made delicious eggs every morning to suit our keto preferences. We felt bad not trying her lovely-smelling fresh bread. They also gave us daily trip advice and helped book dinner on our first night, when we didn’t yet know that in the Azores, arriving at dinner without a reservation often means no food. A cosy, heartwarming stay that made us love Pico even more. We’d love to return to Casa da Ribeira.

Right from the start, Palmira and Mario did everything they could to make us feel at home. They showed us around, suggested restaurants, and included us in a traditional meal with locals, where they served delicious mussels. They’re incredibly attentive hosts. We highly recommend staying here!

Breakfast had everything we could wish for, and the conversations over it were delightful. The rooms were beautiful and spacious, the bathroom large and always spotless, and we could see Pico from our window. The balcony had a lovely sea view. It’s shared with other guests, which gave us the chance to meet pleasant people and enjoy a good chat over a glass of wine. Casa da Ribeira felt like a home away from home. Palmira and Mario are attentive hosts who open their home and hearts to guests. Many thanks to them for the wonderful stay.

We loved having breakfast together each day and hearing all the stories and tips. The house is beautiful and the rooms very comfortable, with a fantastic terrace looking over the sea and the incomparable sound of the Cagarros. Mario and Palmira welcome you into their family from the first moment. It’s a beautiful place with beautiful people, and we missed them and the house as soon as we left. For a few quiet, simple days, Pico is just right. The people are friendly and unpretentious, and you get to enjoy their stories over good food. In Silveira, in the municipality of Lajes, where whalers long ago left the sea trade for work on the land, we found Casa da Ribeira. It has what you need for a peaceful stay: a comfortable bed in a medium-sized suite and a balcony with a 180-degree view, with open sea to the south, Vila da Lages to the east, and the mountain to the west. A generous, varied breakfast with the hosts leaves any vacationer satisfied and ready to explore the island of the mountain.
