Help Yourself Hostels - Restelo

For a stay as long as my month here, dealing with fleas and bed bugs every day for more than 30 days was awful. I paid for the stay and got no refund. The bunk beds sleep three people, which I'd never seen before, and this feels like a very cheap hostel. The manager was never around, didn't answer, and took no responsibility for what was happening. Volunteers were running the place, and they seemed too afraid of ending up on the street to speak up. They couldn't communicate unless it was Brazilian Portuguese, so I had to figure things out myself. If you don't speak Portuguese, especially Brazilian Portuguese, don't go. If you do speak it, you're fine. There was a “fabela” inside, and I didn't like it. It's cheap, literally, so that's what you get. I'd give zero stars if I could.

The room felt cramped, especially with three bunk beds stacked on top of each other. You can't sit upright to read or use your phone, so you have to do that lying down. On the plus side, the bathrooms were well cleaned and there are several, so you can use another if the one on your floor is occupied. The hostel's a good choice if you have a car: there are free parking spots nearby, and you can walk to grocery stores.

We only needed a bed for one night during our Lisbon layover, and this was the only place with any left. The room and beds were okay, but the service was really good. They waited an extra 15 minutes for us to arrive at 00:15 and helped afterward when we needed an invoice.
