MASA Hotel Wellness & Spa Campo Grande Lisbon

After staying here many times over the past four years when visiting Lisbon from our home on Portugal’s west coast, we’re done with this hotel permanently. Since its ownership and management changed last year, cleanliness has dropped disgustingly, and customer service has gone from friendly and helpful to arrogant and inconsiderate. The last time we stayed, the jacuzzi area was a safety hazard, with slippery wet floors and nothing to hold onto when getting in or out. We cancelled the final night before check-in, but didn’t receive that refund until months later, after several calls asking for it. A couple of weeks ago, we booked again for last night. When we arrived yesterday, management told us they had cancelled our reservation and had no room for us. They said there’d been a problem charging the card and that they’d emailed us that day. If that was the issue, it could have been resolved right there at check-in. My card paid €755 in other charges from the past 30 days, and nobody else had a problem charging it. The gym has all the machines you need, and the rooms are very clean with fresh towels every day. Breakfast is quite limited and could offer more options. The bus and metro stations are a little farther away.

The pool and spa cost extra, at least €10 per person, and swimming caps are required, with each one costing another €3. If you just want a quick swim of around an hour, that may feel pricey compared with what other places include. Still, we had a lovely stay at MASA Hotel Campo Grande. It feels modern, clean, comfortable, and well kept, with a friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff. It’s not too big or too small, and everything seemed new.

One receptionist with a darker complexion was especially friendly, professional, and helpful, which made the stay nicer. The building and furniture are new, modern, and clean, and the bathroom is excellent, with a bidet. The room has no soundproofing, though, and housekeeping wasn’t very good. The hand soap is also the same product as the hair shampoo, and it dried out my skin quite a lot.
