Nesha Guesthouse Lisbon

Adel was really friendly and helpful. I traveled on my own with my baby and had a good stay. The amenities are simple, homey, and very practical when you're with a baby.

The beds were comfortable, and the pillows and blankets were okay. The bathroom was cleaned whenever a new guest arrived, so most of the guesthouse was pretty clean. Still, we spotted a small cockroach in the bathroom one night, which was a shock. Our locker was almost completely broken and seemed easy for someone to open, which made us uneasy too. Privacy was another issue. With someone leaving the dorm each day, the cleaner would come in around 10 or 11 in the morning to make the bed for the afternoon arrival. She came in without knocking and talked loudly on the phone. The daily changes of roommates got annoying, especially with four of the six people snoring. That's hostel life, I guess, but earplugs might be needed. The garbage collection around midnight to 1 a.m. was so loud it made sleeping difficult. The dorm also got unbelievably hot, since only one window opened a little. The guesthouse is beside the subway and near a few bus stops, though it takes a while to reach the city center. Being in this area showed us what was probably the ugliest side of Lisbon. There was dog mess all over the streets, and we felt quite uncomfortable at night.

Ana was quick to respond whenever I needed something, and even without meeting her in person, her help made the stay feel welcoming. The price was good, and the location worked really well before or after a flight. The kitchen was generally clean, though the shower curtain needs a thorough clean or replacing, and the bathtub often had almost empty shampoo bottles and wet towels left in it. The bedroom felt a little small for two, but I'd stay here again.

After booking through Global Hotel Card, all we got was the initial confirmation, with no further communication. When we arrived, the host didn't seem to be expecting us or very interested in helping. He said our room was upstairs, but it hadn't been cleaned. Only after we asked did he say it would be cleaned later, something he could have told us before we carried our luggage up. The room also didn't match the listing or its photos. The experience was bad enough that we booked an Airbnb elsewhere instead of dealing with it. I'll look into getting a refund. This was unacceptable.
