VillaHouse Carnide

Carnide has some really excellent restaurants, and this is a great base for exploring all of Portugal.

It’s easy to get into the city center from here, about 30 minutes by metro, and there are restaurants, a fishmonger, and a bakery nearby. Parking was easy too, and Lidl is around a 10-minute walk away. But the house is in terrible condition. There’s a strong musty smell as soon as you enter, and a large damp patch in the kitchen, apparently after some work in the bathroom above. The bathroom floor tiles had been lifted and put back without being sealed, then covered with a board and a mat. The bathtub is coming away around the edges. The coffee maker and toaster were broken, though the host brought replacements the next day. The baseboards come off if touched, and the upstairs window trim isn’t attached properly and falls down. There’s also a small upstairs door that should be locked, since the children usually sleep in that room and the boiler is behind it. I’ve attached photos. Hot water runs out if more than two people try to shower. The house is well connected, but the maintenance was a huge disappointment.

I really can’t recommend this place. It wasn’t clean, and as you can see in the photos, there are even cockroaches. The bathroom was awful. The stairs up to the bedrooms are very steep and dangerous, you can hear everything throughout the house, and parking is terrible because it has to be paid for or you risk a fine or being blocked in.

Good value and close to some great restaurants. A great place to stay.
