Whatever Art B&B

Carlos made our five-night stay at Whatever Art B&B feel special. The garden was lovely, and everything was beautiful and very clean. It's rare to meet a host so genuinely invested in giving guests good service. We'd gladly return and recommend it.

We found plenty of good cafes nearby for breakfast, and Gulbenkian Museum with its lovely gardens is about a 10-minute walk away. Two metro lines and several bus routes are also easy to reach. At Whatever - Art BnB, Carlos made us feel very welcome. The room and shared areas were clean, with distinctive decor, and the bed was really comfortable. A great choice for an authentic stay.

We booked five nights and left after barely getting through one. The owner refused our request to cancel after the first night, so we had to move to a cleaner place and lost the remaining payment, around 450 euros. He later said our account was a lie, but we feel the photos show the property's condition. Many of the high-rating reviews seem to be from 3-6 years ago, when perhaps the place was cleaner and more appealing. The room was small and felt airless within an hour. A stale smell, like old things, cockroach treatment and sweat, clung to us through the night. There was dust, street noise late and early, and psychedelic decor. The bathtub was so dirty that I was afraid to step into it without shoes. The awful smell hit as soon as we entered.

Room 4 was small but cozy, and the bed was pleasantly firm. The shared bathroom was clean and nice, and breakfast was really good, especially the owner's cakes and jams. He was so passionate about making guests feel at home. My boyfriend and I are both 25, and we loved our stay, even though we hated having to leave. 10/10, we'd go back.
