Aurora Sol

We spent nine nights here, and the room and bathroom were spotless. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, and everyone involved in running this lovely little haven of calm gave excellent service.

The rooms were comfortable and well equipped, and the whole hotel was incredibly clean and well cared for. We found the pool lovely and the hotel to be great value. The staff were so helpful, with excellent service.

We slept really well in this quiet area, and the pool was so good it felt worth the price on its own. The rooms are basic but do the job, and the owners are lovely. It was one of our favourite places we’ve found in a while. We wanted to avoid the tourist crowds while still being close to everything, and this worked out well. Luz is within walking distance, and we were no more than 40 minutes from the best beaches around, Monchique, Sagres, and Lagos. There are loads of great restaurants nearby, though some need a drive or an Uber. Most Uber rides cost around £4-£6. I’d put that in euros, but my account charged in pounds. We also took a taxi to the Laundry Lounge on Sunday for live music, around £16 each way. If you enjoy exploring and a bit of adventure, this is definitely worth considering.

We spent six nights here, though it also seems like a handy place to stop if you’re just passing through. The family who host it were friendly and accommodating. It had a relaxed, quiet feel around the pool, with plenty of seats, and WiFi worked throughout the pool area. From 8:15 to 11 in the morning, there was complimentary coffee and a nice range of teas. The place was beautifully maintained, from our room and the pool to the poolside shower room and reception. Reception always smelled of fresh linen. The beach was clean and never too crowded. We liked sitting on the rocks, where it was peaceful and easy to get into the water. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the beachfront, which gives you a chance to feel you’ve earned another pastry. Studio Coffee is about 18 minutes away on the way to the beach. There was a nice buzz in the area in the evenings, and it was lovely to head back to the aurora and sit on the balcony. We took an Uber to Lagos for the day. It was seven euros going there and five coming back, so I guess the fare depends on the time. There are great coastal walks there too. We’d definitely recommend a stay.
