Luz Bay Hotel

The place is quite cool, though it feels more like a 3/5 star hotel to me. It’s a bit run down, and on our first night an appliance leaked water all through the hall and living room. Breakfast was okay, but not very good, maybe a 5/10. It didn’t even have bacon.

Check-in was friendly and check-out easy, and the location was convenient. We didn’t complain during our short stay, though it was only manageable and not a 4* experience, unless we were just unlucky with the room. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable, the hairdryer didn’t work, and a broken piece of wood stuck out of the wardrobe as a clear trip hazard. The sofa was worn and stained, so we couldn’t use it. The cheap plastic table and chairs were meant for outdoors. The safe was broken and the bathroom wasn’t properly clean. There was only soap and shower gel, plus two water glasses. Breakfast was acceptable but limited, and the pool area seemed poorly maintained. The outside and grounds looked fine, which made the neglected interiors and need for investment more disappointing. Other reviews suggest some rooms may be better kept, so perhaps we were unlucky.

I didn’t stay at the complex, but I had access to the pool. There’s a nice, quiet adults-only pool separate from the family and kids’ area. There wasn’t a pool bar. The pool toilets weren’t maintained very well, though the ones by the main hotel reception were much cleaner. Plenty of towels were available, and they were large and soft.

We’ve stayed at this hotel every year for four years and have no complaints. The staff are all lovely, friendly, and helpful. It feels like a home away from home. Rooms are comfortable and clean, the breakfasts are great, and the gardens and pools are so well kept. Brilliant hotel, 10/10.
