The owner was professional, fluent in several languages and one of the kindest hosts we’ve met. He was easy to reach, let us arrange our arrival freely, and made sure we were comfortable throughout. He also knows Marvão inside out. Estalagem de Marvão is a lovely, peaceful and authentic place in the historic centre, in a great location. Our room was spotless and had a nice feel, with traditional furniture alongside air conditioning, a TV with lots of channels and fast Wi-Fi. The bed was very comfortable, with extra pillows in the spacious closet, and the ensuite bathroom was a good size with a roomy shower. Breakfast was included and extensive, with at least three kinds of bread, cereal, charcuterie, local products and excellent coffee with warm milk, all served in a lovely breakfast room. We highly recommend it if you’re after a characterful stay, good service and a very sweet host.

The location made it easy to explore the whole village on foot, with cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops and local art shops nearby. We were surprised by how much we enjoyed Estalagem de Marvão. Getting there was a little complicated, but the owner sent clear directions to the parking lot. The apartments are above a small, charming shop, and there’s no elevator, so you have to use the stairs. We managed fine. Our second-floor apartment had amazing views, and the old building style was nicely combined with modern renovations in the bedroom and bathroom. Breakfast was included and really good. It seems to be run by a lovely family, and we had a great stay. We’d recommend it, and we shared the same review on Booking.

A kind host, cosy and tasteful decor, and everything exceptionally clean. The setting is amazing, and breakfast with local products was very tasty. All of this came at a reasonable price. An excellent holiday stay, highly recommended.

We came to this area to get away from bad weather and had booked two nights, but soon wanted to stay longer. There wasn’t availability to extend, understandably, and we’d gladly return. The room was palatial, with a view over the medieval street outside. During our four weeks travelling around Portugal, Estalagem de Marvão was one of the highlights, a rare find that made the trip special.

The owners were super friendly and helpful, and found us a good restaurant. Breakfast was good too. It’s a really cosy house, with a fireplace in the common area and a country-romantic feel to the room.
