Hotel Dom Manuel

Our room was spotless, the bed was very comfortable, and we had a lovely view. The hotel is also ideally placed for visiting this extraordinary village, which is why we stayed the night. Sleep was another matter, though. It was quiet from 11 pm until 6:30 am, but after that we could hear everything happening in the hotel, as if we were right there, from the hallway to what might have been the restaurant kitchen. We couldn’t sleep past then.

It’s clean, welcoming, and friendly, with a traditional feel. The staff were lovely, the food was great, and there’s free parking. It may not offer every facility you’d find at a five-star resort, but I’d happily stay here any time. The location is unbelievable. I loved this hotel.

The owners clearly take pride in this place. I slept exceptionally well here, one of my best nights of the trip. The room was nicely equipped, the food was good, and there’s a small, simple bar with sofas where you can unwind.

We liked the hotel itself: it’s central, the room was big enough, and the atmosphere was great. The restaurant was the letdown. Prices were high by Portuguese standards, but the food was poorly put together, and the value just wasn’t there. Every plate came with an orange or lemon slice, whether it belonged there or not. The cheese starters and cold cuts were especially disappointing: cheap Portuguese cheese, merely sliced and served without any decoration, and you had to pay extra for butter and all the bread that came with it. The cold cuts were poor quality too. Such a shame, given the lovely specialties from the Alentejo region that weren’t used here. Breakfast was okay, but didn’t include regional specialties either.
