The area is beautiful, and the room was spacious and bright with amazing views. But it was 40 degrees when we visited, and there wasn't even a fridge in the room for water. We asked whether we could use another fridge, but that wasn't possible. There's no restaurant apart from breakfast, and if you arrive after 4pm for check-in, they send you to another property 30 minutes away. The service wasn't the best.
We found it wonderfully peaceful here, a great place to get away from the busy city and settle into nature. The mix of comfort, charm, and quiet made the stay memorable, and the countryside setting felt almost magical. Our room had a direct view across the vineyard and Douro Valley. Waking up to that scenery was an incredible experience. Our stay at Vila Marim Country Houses was amazing, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to relax.
The kindness and attentiveness of the service made our stay extra special. Vila Marim is wonderfully quiet, with birdsong as the only sound, so it was easy to disconnect. The view from the room is breathtaking. I'd absolutely recommend it for a peaceful, memorable break in the Douro Valley.
We really enjoyed the villas, the surroundings, and the nice staff. It was also easy to head out for a meal. The houses are comfortable and lovely, and it's a great spot for a few quiet, relaxing days in nature. Still, a few things need work. The website pictures show yoga classes and massages, but those weren't available. We stayed five nights and saw only one person working during the day. They were expected to manage breakfast, room cleaning, check-in and check-out, reception, and guest requests. They were very nice, but there's only so much one person can do. We ended up cleaning the pool ourselves each morning. Breakfast was okay, but I expected more. The juices were bottled supermarket ones, with no fresh fruit juice. It would help to have a snack bar or restaurant, short meals on request, or another way to get dinner on site. Our villa had a small kitchen, but the stove didn't work, and we couldn't reach anyone to fix it.
A five-star-plus stay. The view from every part of the hotel and from our room was just perfect. We visited in May, when the grapevines were lush and green and the cherries were ripe. We really enjoyed our stay and finally felt like we were on holiday. The linen and bed were so comfortable, and the breakfast they offered at the end rounded off a lovely stay and trip. Thank you!
