Bienestar Termas de Monçao

My husband booked a room for my birthday anniversary on 10 December, hoping to use the thermal baths and spa. After nearly two hours of driving, we arrived to a cold welcome, and the receptionist had no name badge. We were then told the spa was closed, something the website hadn't mentioned. The room was worse, with a completely wet wall covered in mold. When we asked to switch rooms, the receptionist said none were available, although Booking showed rooms open. We left and went to another hotel. I wouldn't recommend it.

The staff were friendly, helpful, and professional, and both dinner and breakfast were good for the price. Breakfast had especially good quality and variety. The hotel was a positive stay in the end, though I expected a bit more from a 4-star place. Our room needs maintenance: the minibar fridge was loud enough to hear at bedtime, the closet smelled a little moldy, and the digital key lock didn't work. Wi-Fi was okay, but the signal and speed could be better. We also found the TV too small, and the signal quality was poor.

A hidden gem in northern Portugal, with efficient service and a nice breakfast buffet. It's well placed near the town center, the river, and the thermal baths next door, and not far from Spain or Porto.

The staff were friendly, and the wine selection was fantastic. The location is great, with free entry to the termas. I'd skip the restaurant and walk into town for dinner.
