The pool was very good, and the room was clean and nice enough. Breakfast was okay too. The location is excellent: it’s not right on the seafront, but Monte Gordo is small and you can walk everywhere in five minutes. Everyone was very supportive and willing to help. The one thing that needs work is the Wi-Fi, which kept failing in the bedroom. Still, it was a nice experience.

The bar staff really made our one-night stay in Monte Gordo with friends. Their cocktails were surprisingly good and lifted the experience. The hotel itself is dated and basic, but clean and comfortable, definitely not luxurious. Parking was difficult because there isn’t much space for a hotel of this size. Breakfast was the biggest letdown, a complete fail. The food was poor, from limp bacon and questionable coffee machines to unappetizing meats, cheeses and tinned sausages. I’d skip it. The location, though, is fantastic for a short stop in town. It’s a clean, functional place to sleep if you want to enjoy what Monte Gordo has to offer. I wouldn’t pick it for a holiday, but it works for a quick stopover.

The only things I liked were the pool, lounge area and cleanliness. The room balcony was bare, with no chairs or table, and there was no shampoo for the shower. The fridge didn’t cool at all, as if it wasn’t working. The scratched and torn faux leather on the headboard looked really poor. The gym was very basic and cost €5 to use, and the spa was €12. Coffee at the bar was very expensive.

For the price, including breakfast, it’s a decent hotel. The staff were super friendly, and we really enjoyed the live music at weekends. Our room had a safe, balcony, air conditioning, TV and small fridge, so it was generally well equipped. Everything was very clean, though the beds and bathroom felt a bit dated. I wish the TV were bigger, probably only 17 inches, and that the pillows weren’t so flimsy.
