Girassol Alojamento Local

We booked the whole place, which is usually rented room by room. The pool in the back garden was excellent for cooling off after a long ride, and there’s a nice little restaurant a 10 minute stroll down the road.

Girassol would be a great base for a longer stay, with plenty of attractions nearby, especially around Evora. The accommodation is extremely comfortable and even has a swimming pool. We had to set off the next day, but first enjoyed a simple breakfast. Our flights were delayed, and then we had to sort out an off-site airport car rental, so we only reached the place around 19h30. It was an easy, short drive from Lisbon and a perfect first night in Portugal. We picked up some basics, mostly for breakfast, at a supermarket just outside Montemor-o-Novo. After calling Gertrude, she arrived within a minute to show us in. The room had modern finishes, and the shared space had a lounge with a large TV, a kitchen and dining area. We asked Gertrude about a local taverna or restaurant (Tasqhinua), and she had a table booked at Tasqhinua Ai Ai within a minute. A must do!!! We met John and Lizzie from Oz at the accommodation and invited them along. We all walked into the village for supper, saw its authentic feel and old communal wash-house.

We stay here during our N2 cycling tours. It’s always clean and tidy, and having a private pool is a great bonus.

It’s right on the road, a perfect base for exploring the Portuguese N2 route. The common area is fabulous, with a kitchen, bathroom, and living and dining room. The private bedroom and bathroom are quiet and very clean, ideal for relaxing after a long motorcycle ride. Gertrudes was lovely and made everything easy for us, even letting us use the pool right outside the accommodation.
