A very disappointing stay. The curtains and bedding were dirty, but what upset me most was the toilet. It looked clean at first, then, while I was lying on the sofa, I noticed fecal matter around the toilet lid from where I could see the bathroom. That was shocking and unacceptable, especially since it would have been so easy to clean. It seemed nobody had bothered.

Parking can be difficult, and there's a little noise, though earplugs take care of it. It's right on the main plaza, with a pleasant town and views over the square. I loved the shared kitchen area. The place is cute and has a nautical feel, with compact, affordable rooms.

The room was small but charming, and the location was great. We liked the pretty view and the breakfast at the cafe nearby. :)

The staff we met were all lovely, and the place was spotlessly clean. Our room was small but had everything we needed for a short visit, and there are plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. We spent four nights at By the Sea in early March, hoping to see giant waves for our wedding anniversary, and we did! Breakfast downstairs in the cafe was delicious. Our stay also fell on International Women's Day, and management gave me a single rose. Such a lovely touch, and a lovely stay. Thank you.

If a good night's sleep matters to you, you may want somewhere quieter than this beachside spot. The rooms and rooftop are nice enough, but the restaurant right below rings a bell each time it serves someone a 'boat' of seafood. Maybe great for the diners, less great when your room is just above and you're trying to sleep. There are several restaurants around, so delivery trucks arrive very early, revving and beeping. Then the street sweeper comes along.
