Casa Azul

The beachfront setting is fantastic, but the furniture is in such poor shape that staying there was uncomfortable. The owners urgently need to replace it and renovate the apartment.

The apartment is right on the beach, which is about its only real plus. It’s also right beside the road, with traffic noise and the noise and smells from nearby restaurants, including a Chinese restaurant. The place was run-down and didn’t look like the photos. The couch was old and dirty, the mattress sagged, there was mold in the bathroom, and the plastic flowers were dusty. The drains were blocked, the dishes were dirty, the coffee maker was broken, the sheets were torn, and the walls were dirty. The whole building is poorly maintained and rarely cleaned.

The apartment has plenty of space, comfortable beds, and a priceless ocean view. It was very clean, and all the decorations and little ornaments made it feel cozy rather than like a bare rental. The kitchen had enough equipment, though we hardly used it. Having an elevator and garage was a real plus, with lots of restaurants and bars nearby that keep different hours. The bathrooms badly need updating, as others have said. Also, from Friday to Saturday and Saturday to Sunday, there were concerts in the tent outside the windows from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM. Even with the windows shut, sleeping was difficult. It was still a very enjoyable stay, and I’ll definitely recommend the place to friends.

The apartment’s location near the beach was great, and the underground garage was very handy since parking around town is difficult. That earns it two stars from me. The photos show only a small part of the apartment. I can see why they left out both bathrooms: there’s a lot of mold on the ceilings and in almost every crack. Nearly every door in the building drags along the floor and is hard to open. The parquet was laid badly, and gaps are appearing all over. Maybe other apartments are in better shape, but ours was "AM" and we won’t be back.
