Hotel Miramar Sul

Nazares was very wet and windy while we were there, but the room was warm and cozy, and our balcony looked over the pool. The place sits high on a hill, with views of the ocean and a small port full of fishing trawlers. A perfect place to stay if you’re heading to Nazares.

The breakfast buffet was excellent, and we had a very good dinner buffet there too. The rooms were spacious and clean, and the views of the beach were great. Free parking was a nice plus, and the front desk was always friendly. Getting to the beach was a pain, with very limited parking, and the roads leading up were narrow and poorly maintained. The building is older and shows it, so I wouldn’t call this a four-star hotel. Still, we’d stay again.

The rooms and hotel feel a bit tired, but it was still comfortable and very reasonably priced. The place is nice and quiet, and the restaurant on the fourth floor has a really nice view. I’d come back.

The staff were a bright spot throughout, friendly, helpful, and positive. The breakfast buffet was another plus, with fresh breads, pastries, and a good range of options, though it got repetitive on a longer stay. Even so, the experience didn’t justify the cost, and I won’t be back. I’d give it 1.5 out of 5. The hotel felt short on things to do for both adults and children. Live music was only during dinner, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and the bar had only background music and little atmosphere. The pool table wasn’t monitored, so waits could run anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. There was no kids’ club or other children’s activity besides mini-golf, which wasn’t enjoyable in the scorching sun. A “DJ” played by the pool for the first two days, then disappeared, and the place felt lifeless afterward. Even a relaxed hotel needs some guest entertainment. Lunch wasn’t served in the restaurant, which left the bar as the option. It only operated from 1:00 PM until shortly before dinner. Dinner cost €31 per adult and €14 per child, but the quality didn’t match the price. The indoor pool was better than the outdoor one, but it felt like a sauna, oppressively hot and hard to breathe in or stay for long. The outdoor pool was decent, though Nazare’s shifting weather, from hot to windy and cloudy, limited how much we could use it. The rooms were a decent size, but the children’s bed was broken in the middle, which wasn’t acceptable. A small table on the balcony would have been useful for relaxing or having snacks. The nearby area was quiet and had few attractions. The hotel can’t be blamed for that, but you need a car to get to the city center, and there’s little to do otherwise.
