Sunao

The room had a few useful things: plenty of hot water, a washing machine, and a spot close to the beach and restaurants. But the machine smelled badly of mold, there were only two usable electrical outlets, and the only heat was an electric radiator. A fan was provided for cooling, but there was no air conditioning. Even at its highest setting, the radiator couldn't warm the room. The main lights were harsh fluorescent bulbs, and there was no soap or shampoo in the shower. The entry system was complicated, and the timed lock stopped working when we went out for a snack. After waiting to check in, that made us feel rushed to leave. We arrived in Nazaré on a rainy day shortly after 11:00, but our room wasn't due to be ready until 14:00, so we passed the time eating at restaurants nearby. When we got in just after 14:00, we thought we had the wrong room: the bed was dirty and unmade, the bathroom and towels were wet, and dishes were still on the counter, as if the previous guests had just left. We called the booking company, and they said someone would come clean. The person arrived within 15 minutes, but the unit was too small for us to stay in while they worked, so we went outside. With nowhere else to go, we waited across the street in the wind and rain. The cleaning wasn't finished until 15:21, and after more than an hour in 11° weather, we were freezing. It was inconvenient, and the company offered neither an apology nor compensation. Other places we'd stayed had given us complimentary snacks and a bottle of wine, but this place offered nothing and could use some lessons in hospitality. Of all our lodgings in Portugal, this was one of the worst. I can't recommend it after our experience.
