Casa Sol Nascente

Nordeste was a handy base for exploring the island, with lots of sights and hiking trails nearby. The apartment itself was spotless, recently renovated, and had a modern interior and a great ocean view. We also really appreciated the bread delivered every morning. I’ve stayed in plenty of places, and this is one of the best. I liked it so much I returned, and I’m already making plans to visit again. I highly recommend it if you’re in the Azores.

The hosts are wonderful, and the ocean views put a big smile on your face. It’s a great place for a stay away from the usual tourist track, with a complete house and a personal touch at breakfast. Just be aware of the steep road up, since some rental cars may not handle it as well. The shower pressure is a little weak.

The welcome team was great, and the rest of the stay was excellent. The property feels very homely and is a real gem, though its off-the-beaten-track location takes some planning. In December, not many restaurants in the area are open. There are two things that could be improved. The connecting door between the “arch” property and the one next door doesn’t block sound, so you can hear the neighbors having breakfast and even know what they’re eating. Also, the bed and pillows had unpleasant plastic covers that rustled whenever I moved, like being inside a tissue packet.

We weren’t sure what to expect when we got there, but it turned out to be such a lovely place. The staff were kind and friendly, and the location suited our holiday, touring around while trying to avoid the well-worn track. We really enjoyed the stay. :)
