Our family felt at home the whole time, thanks to the hosts, who were welcoming and shared really good recommendations. The view from the terrace is breathtaking, and breakfast there was fresh and excellent, with local ingredients from the garden and animals. The room was large and clean. Povoação is a great base for exploring Sao Miguel. We’d highly recommend Quinta Atlantis and hope we can return one day.

The main drawback was the steep, narrow road up to the property, so be sure you’re comfortable driving on it. Apart from that, our three days at Quinta Atlantis were delightful. The house is roomy and charming, with amazing views over the ocean and countryside. Our airy second-floor room had a sea theme and nice decor, a comfortable bed, and a spacious, functional bathroom. It did have a slight sewage smell, so we kept the door shut and window open. Maria was a wonderful host, and the breakfasts she made were among the best of our trip. We only wish we’d had more time to enjoy the place.

Breakfast was the highlight for us. We’d get up early for the homemade cakes, fresh bread, jams and juices made with fruit from the garden, eggs, and cheeses, all enjoyed with a beautiful view. The house is well placed, a few minutes from supermarkets and restaurants and about a 15-minute drive from Furnas and its thermal baths. The spacious bedroom was cleaned every day, and the house itself is lovely. Adelia and Guy are warm, welcoming hosts who make you feel at home and are happy to suggest things to do on the island. We had a perfect stay and would book here again without hesitation if we return to the Azores. Their two dogs and cat are adorable, too.

Maria, who handled the rooms and breakfast, was very friendly. The rest of the stay was disappointing, and I wouldn’t recommend this place while visiting the beautiful Azores. For the price, other places offer much more. Our room was cold and humid when we arrived, and its window faced a wall. The shared spaces were right beside it, next to the owners’ living room and kitchen, so privacy was limited. The house is by a street locals use for what felt like their “formula 1” practice, and there’s no protected parking, so you have to find a spot somewhere nearby on the street. It felt set up like a youth hostel, with strict rules: no eating or drinking in rooms, quiet hours after 22.00, and a 5 Euro fee if you don’t wash your dishes in the shared kitchen. There are many nicer places on the island.

María made us scrambled eggs every morning and was so nice, even laughing at my husband’s weird jokes. We had a room with its own bathroom, which was great. When we arrived, the owners were leaving that same day, but Guy still took time to show us around, share the house’s history, and point out what was worth visiting. We stayed at Quinta for three days and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the warm hospitality.
