Casa do Castelo - Óbidos

Breakfast was lovely, especially the freshly made scrambled eggs with bacon. The hotel is in a superb spot in the center of this charming castle town, near the historic lanes. The interior feels elegant, and the single rooms have nice artwork and plenty of natural light. My room had no air conditioning, which caught me off guard on a hot afternoon, so I had to open the window. The shower area is cramped, and there’s no large table in the room.

It’s a quaint, quirky place with only about eight rooms. The walls are paper thin, and street noise comes straight through. There’s only soap, no lotion, conditioner, or shampoo. If the hotel is full and the patio isn’t being used, breakfast may be split into two sittings. You can’t bring vehicles inside the walls, so luggage can be a hassle. The public parking outside the walls only takes cash.

Mr. Diamante really lives up to his name, and the service from him and the staff was amazing. I felt very comfortable and well looked after, and only wish I’d stayed longer. The view from my window was amazing, too, and I got a great time lapse from it. The rooms are cute, almost romantic, and a definite value for the price. Breakfast was a nice extra, with good coffee and a meal to get me going, though it wasn’t gourmet. If you want a more formal breakfast, there are plenty of nearby places. You can head straight to the rear wall tower and walkway, or leave through the North Gate.

Mr. Diamante and his partner were incredibly welcoming. The hotel is charming and quaint, clean, cozy, and romantic, with hospitality that felt five-star. Every room looks out at a fortress wall. The walls don’t block all the sound, but most guests were quiet and respectful. We parked our rental just outside the city wall, then walked about two minutes into the walled city. The two-storey hotel is a block up from the busy main street. Breakfast was included and made it easy to get an early start, since many places opened later.
