Rio do Prado

It’s a beautiful setting, and the food tasted great. Breakfast could use some hot choices, like eggs or vegetables. Our room was quiet but needed maintenance: after we drained the bathtub, it smelled like a sewer for ten minutes, and a nail sticking out of the wooden floor could be dangerous if you missed it. There were quite a few insects in the room. We knew we were staying in a green space, so that didn’t put us off, but anyone who can’t tolerate bugs might want to reconsider or ask staff to spray before check-in. It’s a nice place for couples to relax, and the shared areas could make it even more enjoyable with a group of friends.

I found the window views breathtaking, and the room was spacious, spotless, and beautifully designed. Modern amenities and a very comfortable bed made for a restful night. The hotel clearly puts a lot of emphasis on comfort and luxury.

The rooms and location are incredible, and the estuary nearby has a wonderful network of trails. I became ill in the early hours after eating at the restaurant, though I can’t tell whether it was food poisoning or a bug. When I asked, they brought me liquids, but didn’t seem very concerned or offer much help. I understand they’re not a hospice, but I was staying alone and had a rough night after that meal. Given how small and intimate the place is, I’d have appreciated someone checking on me the next day while I was passed out. Also, one guest’s dog barked nonstop. It may have been comforting for its owner, but not for everyone else.

The staff were kind and helpful, and they even waived the room service fee because the kitchen was late with our meals. We stayed two nights in a really big, cosy room, and the breakfast was generous and very good. It was an amazing visit, and we’ll definitely come back.
