We arrived at Downtown Guesthouse around 11 pm on 23/5/25 and found the place unclean: black mold on the bathroom ceiling, hairs in the shower, and a dirty bathmat with brown stains. We figured we could put up with it for two nights, until we saw bugs on the wall behind the bed. I used an app to identify them as bedbugs. Looking closer, we found them on the sheets and in the pillows. We left as soon as we could, at 2 am, after taking photos. I called the owner expecting concern and some kind of solution. Instead, she got defensive and said, "you can't prove anything." We sent photos and videos of the bugs, plus receipts for our replacement hotel from 2:30 am on 24/5, but she still said that wasn't enough proof. Booking.com contacted her, but she refused a refund. When I called again, she had blocked my number. On 25/5, I found a live bedbug crawling on my bag. Our bags had been on the bed for only 30 minutes before we left, and now it seems we may have to burn all our belongings. We lost 110 euros. I later saw other Google reviews describing the same bedbug and no refund experience. The owners are scammers, and I'm hugely disappointed that booking.com still has this property listed.

The house is infested with bedbugs, and I believe the owner is scamming customers. I'm working with Booking.com, airbnb, and other sites to get her listings removed, and I've also reported this to the authorities.

Fine for a couple of nights, but the rooms need updating. There was no hot water for showers. They advertise rooms with a terrace, though what we had was a tiny balcony where you can just about stand.

We arrived from the airport on the evening of August 4, 2024, for a three-night booking before heading elsewhere in the Algarve. There was no reception, which we hadn't realized when booking, so I messaged the owner through Booking.com at 7:30 p.m. and then switched to WhatsApp because I couldn't attach photos there. We went out for dinner while waiting to hear whether we could change rooms or get a refund and find somewhere else. When we first entered, there were several large bed bugs on the walls and crawling on the bed. After hearing nothing all night, we returned to find even more in the bedroom. We took off the bed cover, moved the mattress into the living room, and spent the night there, horrified and unable to reach the owner. She replied at 9 the next morning, with no apology, saying she was taking family days off and would ask the cleaner to apply insect products. The messages went on to imply we might have brought the bugs ourselves. She also tried to get us to leave a good Booking.com review in exchange for a refund. We left that morning and still haven't received a refund for the other two nights. Booking.com hasn't replied to our message either. We're still in shock. I've attached screenshots of the whole conversation.

Such a lovely stay. The place was spotless, the atmosphere was nice, and the kitchen had everything we needed. We’ll definitely come back! ❤️
