We should’ve stayed two nights at this fantastic place, though the next pousada was just as good. Following the GPS up the mountain, we wondered if we were heading to the right spot. The village streets were so narrow that we thought we’d have to stop at the church, but we kept going and reached the front door. The views were fantastic and the service was excellent. The pool has an amazing outlook, so make sure to leave time for it. That was my biggest regret. Breakfast was really, really good too. For dinner, we walked down the street to a cute corner place run by two older people. They made us excellent food, and I know it was fresh because I helped carry it in. There’s also a castle ruin just behind the pousada at the top of the mountain, which was fun to explore on foot. The people who designed that fortification were clever. Highly recommended!

The hilltop view is magnificent, and the pousada’s facade is impressive, with a striking castle in the background. But the uphill drive is difficult and feels dangerous. The hotel is built into the old rocks, some of which are exposed in the lobby. Our room was spacious, though dated in style. The refrigerator and safe didn’t work, and while the bathroom was large, there wasn’t much surface space for our things. The bathtub had a vinyl curtain, which didn’t feel very sanitary. There’s a dinner restaurant, but it’s expensive. The place has a heavy, solemn medieval atmosphere, not a cheerful one. The TV is as antiquated as the hotel, which needs upgrades and improvements.

The rooms feel dated, though they were clean and had a decent amount of space. Getting there by car may be tricky if yours is larger than a VW Golf. The hilltop setting is hard to beat, but make sure to ask for a superior room with a valley view, or you could be very disappointed.

The setting is peaceful, up on the hill and enclosed by the castle wall. It’s comfortable, but for the price I’d expect some renovation. Keep your luggage manageable, since you have to carry it up stairs before reaching the elevator. This isn’t a cheap place to stay.

The city view was great, and there’s a castle nearby to check out. Really nice room and great beds, no complaints.
