This was advertised as an apartment, but it felt more like a hostel. We booked a three-quarter apartment with a balcony, assuming the rooms would be private. Instead, our rooms opened onto a corridor leading to the shared kitchen and dining area, and the supposedly private bathroom was off that corridor too. We couldn’t find the second bathroom listed on Booking. We also had to keep the area locked to stop people using the shared spaces from coming in, which meant figuring out where to leave a key everyone could access. The balcony wasn’t private either, it was shared with all the guests. There wasn’t enough seating indoors at breakfast, so I ended up eating while standing in the corridor. The breakfast was poor, and when we asked for more ham, it only arrived after we’d finished. It was freezing cold throughout the place as well. Guests arriving after 22:00 made enough noise to wake us. It’s an old house with thin walls, so we could hear people walking around, especially the guests upstairs in the suites. We had small children with us and didn’t feel comfortable letting them run around, both because of the stairs and because there was so much stuff around that we didn’t dare touch the furnishings. When we raised the issue of it not being an apartment, the host got defensive and said we couldn’t expect more for the price. We also told him it was cold. His response to our concerns was to ask what we expected at that price. Fortunately, we’d booked only one night. Otherwise, we would definitely have pushed harder for a refund. Calling it three rooms and a semi-private toilet would have been more accurate.

Vintage Balcony worked well for my stay of two nights, especially since it’s handy for reaching places like Aveiro and Porto by car. The main road is nearby, and several beaches are about a ten-minute drive away. I didn’t have a car, though, and enjoyed the safe 12-minute walk to Ovar Station. I took the train to Aveiro for the day and felt safe walking back at dusk. Some guests were strange and rude on our second night, but Bruno handled the situation quickly and professionally. He’s very kind and organized. I’d recommend the place.

We stopped here for one night during our bike trip from Porto to Lisbon, and the location suited us perfectly. Bruno and his colleagues were so welcoming, stored our bikes and gear, and took care of everything we needed. The breakfast was wonderful, with fresh figs and warm pastel de nata. The interior has thoughtful decor, lovely colors, and a real eye for detail.

Bruno made our two-night stay feel like home, and his extra care is a big reason I’d happily stay longer next time we’re exploring the area. He also sorted out our allergies and intolerances with a lovely gluten-free breakfast, muffins included. And don’t forget to say hi to Lola, the Vietnamese pig 🐗. A great guesthouse in Ovar.

Our dog settled in straight away, and Bruno and Martin were so welcoming and accommodating. When we had an emergency at the last minute, they did us a huge favor. The house is beautiful, with spacious rooms and charming, warm decor that made it feel like being in a movie. We really wished we could’ve stayed longer, and we’d sincerely love to come back. We truly recommend this guesthouse!
