A handy place to spend a night if you’re driving up from the south before a flight from LIS the next day. We also enjoyed the walk down to Culto Panorâmico, especially the apricot risotto, which I’d recommend. The room itself was less pleasant. Pousadas can be a bit hit or miss, with dated, dreary rooms, and Palmela was like that for me. The bed was comfortable enough, but the shower was miserable. I’ve started carrying a humidity monitor, and our room never dropped below 70%. If they could get fresh, warm, dry air circulating in the rooms, they’d be more comfortable and smell better.

The views were amazing, and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Spending a night here felt very castle-like, and we had a great time.

We stopped for lunch on the way from Evora to Lisbon and loved it. The food and service were the best. We explored the grounds afterwards and wished we could have stayed overnight, since the place is so pretty. We recommend it.

Inside, the castle feels warm and comfortable, which is what sets Pousada Castelo Palmela apart from other places. The medieval castle itself is glorious. Anna at reception arranged a wonderful romantic weekend for us, and we really appreciated her help.

The restaurant was fantastic, and breakfast out in the courtyard was such fun. Our room was comfortable too. This region’s wine ended up being our favorite of the trip. It’s a wonderful place to stay, and not far from Lisbon.
