Beira Rio do Gerês

The mountain and nature views from this family-run place are stunning, and the evenings are peaceful after a day exploring the park. It’s right in the heart of Gerês and has everything you need for a comfortable stay, at a great price. The family made us feel so welcome, almost like old friends, and were wonderfully kind and hospitable. We’d definitely return.

The breakfast buffet was amazing, with bread, rolls, sweet pastries, coffee, tea, jam, cheese, ham, and more. Try the Gerés honey, and if you like it, you can buy it at reception. Our room was very comfortable, and we rested well here. There’s a cheaper option without a view, or a pricier room with a wonderful view of the bay, river, or lake. The sound insulation could be better, though it didn’t bother us much since people come here to relax, not party. We wish we’d stayed longer and will definitely come back. Thanks for a lovely stay!

The room was cleaned with such care that even our clothes were folded. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the hotel’s lakeside setting is beautiful. It’s easy to reach the beach, take a taxi for a mountain hike, or just have a drink in the sun. We really enjoyed our stay. Well worth a visit!

The people running the hotel were very kind and helpful, and breakfast was great, served at the table on a terrace overlooking the reservoir for 5€. The restaurant inside wasn’t operating because of the pandemic. The hotel also has its own beach, and the surroundings are lovely, with beaches around a large reservoir and easy access to the National Park behind it. My room was spacious, with a big comfortable bed and a great shower, and it was cleaned every day. It’s a good fit for all kinds of travelers, and especially nice if you’re traveling alone and want some quiet time to yourself. My room was at the back, where a machine made noise every now and then, almost every 10 minutes, and woke me up. It was quiet at night, though. There wasn’t much natural light, so I had to keep the lights on. Parking can be difficult in high season, depending on the time of day because of all the nearby beaches. In summer, a fridge would be nice, and a hairdryer could be useful.
