Cherry Sculpture Hotel

The restaurant food was excellent, especially the juicy boar, and the staff were lovely. The woman working there in the evening was particularly kind and helpful. But the hotel itself is worn, the windows are dirty, and the toilets are oddly open to the room. The surrounding forests are completely burnt, so it feels like the hotel is in the middle of an apocalypse, and nobody warned us.

The Cherry rooms were cozy and fun, and the hotel has a cool feel after its recent refurbishment. We ate very well there too. It’s also a great base for exploring some of Portugal’s more remote areas.

We had to keep the curtains drawn in our room because its windows were at pool level, almost at floor height, and anyone on a lounger could look straight inside. I’d ask for a first-floor room if staying here. The rooms are clean, tidy, excellent, and well laid out, and the staff are friendly and attentive, perhaps a little too much at times. Check-in really goes above and beyond. The location and facilities are good, and the room was good value. The restaurant serves good food, though I found it a bit overpriced. I didn’t feel ripped off, but I spent a lot more on dinner than I expected. I wish I’d booked one of the cherries, they looked fabulous once we arrived.

Our room was amazing, and the place has a lot of potential. The staff let it down, though. A smile when we arrived would have been nice, and they seemed a bit clueless. Since it’s a new hotel, maybe they just need more training.
