The homemade traditional food was a highlight, especially breakfast and the dinner you can request. We had a lovely stay, and the accommodations were good. In autumn, you can also take part in the chestnut harvest.

The spacious, clean room had a roomy bathroom and a comfortable bed, and breakfast was excellent. We were warmly welcomed by D. Isaltina and her husband, Sr. Manuel. They were both incredibly kind. The house is more than 300 years old and very peaceful, just right for a restful weekend from April 3 to 5, 2026. There are large rooms on the ground and first floors for watching TV and relaxing, with very good sound insulation. It’s about five minutes from Penedono, the Santa Eufémia Sanctuary, and the view of the Douro mine ruins. Entry to the castle is free. For good food, there’s Fornos do Rei near the castle, or another restaurant under the same management in Sernancelhe, about 12 minutes from Penedono. Such an incredible experience. A big hug to D. Isaltina and Sr. Manuel.

The house’s history and the scenery around it are fascinating. D. Exaltina and her husband made us feel like family from the moment they welcomed us.
