Sara and Pedro make this hostel special. I stayed four nights, and they were absolutely lovely. They welcomed me with a glass of wine and loads of information about Pinhão and the Douro-Valley, including where to eat and find good wine tastings in Pinhão. They run the place with so much heart, and you can feel it as a guest. I felt at home. The hostel is very clean, with a big kitchen and a grill on a beautiful terrace. If you’re visiting the Douro-Valley, stop in Pinhão and stay at Douro Backpackers. I don’t think you’ll regret it. Thanks again for such a wonderful time in Pinhão.

What won me over was arriving back late from the restaurant Pedro had recommended and being offered a good glass of wine on the rooftop terrace. We were made to feel welcome to join everyone in the conversation. Pedro and his Swiss partner are wonderful. Just great, though my partner slept on the lower part of the double bed and I took the upper part ;/))

Sara and Pedro are one of a kind, and the hostel is lovely, clean and so welcoming. For the Douro Valley, we’d recommend taking the train, staying here, walking the PR20 ALJ trail up to Casal De Loivos, then stopping at the wineries on the way down. Sam & Lucy

Pedro and Sarah were such great hosts, with so much knowledge of the area and plenty of recommendations for hikes, restaurants and wineries. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and there’s a nice kitchen and roof terrace. This is hands down the best hostel I’ve stayed in. Couldn’t recommend it more.

Pinhão is a perfect base for a few days of exploring the region, and the rooftop terrace is a great spot in the evening. The whole hostel is quiet and super clean. The hosts were extremely friendly, helpful and generous. This is by far the best hostel I’ve ever stayed in. Highly recommended for travelers of any age.
