Vila Gale Collection S. Miguel Hotel

The staff were easily the best part of this hotel. They were gracious and helpful from the time we arrived right through to departure. We spent six nights in March and enjoyed every day. Our room was modern, spacious, and quiet, with a lovely view of Forte de São Brás. Breakfast had lots of options, and everything we tried was superb.

What really stood out was the front desk team. Everyone was amazing and helped with all sorts of things, from small requests to ideas for activities and excursions, and even getting us a permit for a hike in a restricted area. There was a huge courtyard pool with a cool overflow design, and guests could use the Turkish bath for free, including its sauna, hot showers, and steam room. The shower had very hot water, and our room was good. We had a great time at Vila Gale, a 10 out of 10 for us!

We had a good time overall, but there are things this place could improve. The staff were smiley and friendly throughout. Breakfast was very good quality, though the coffee tasted like bad instant coffee. The New Year's dinner and evening were amazing and worth it, but we regretted having the other dinners included. Service seemed short staffed, our requests often weren't understood, and more than once we waited an hour and a half for food with a hungry child. The meals themselves were often disappointing. The room was spacious, with a minibar, excellent room service, and an okay view. The beds were reasonably comfortable, but the TV switched on whenever we entered, so I quickly unplugged it. There was a musty smell during the whole stay. My asthma also flared up every night, despite not needing my inhaler for years. I don't know if it was the carpet or pillows, but something in the room made breathing difficult. The gym was okay, and the pool and saunas were nice. Our family stayed seven days over New Year's with breakfast and dinner included. I'd give the rooms and facilities a solid four stars, but the restaurant two. I wouldn't choose half board, and if you have asthma, I wouldn't book this place.

The central Ponta Delgada location made it easy to get to shops, restaurants, and local sights. The rooms were clean, roomy, and nicely decorated, with a cozy Azorean feel alongside modern comforts. Breakfast offered plenty of fresh, regional food and tasted great. The team were consistently helpful and friendly. I had a really good stay at Vila Galé São Miguel, a nice place to relax while exploring São Miguel.
