The owner, Ana Paula, was attentive, friendly, and warm. We loved the place. It’s an old building, but very well maintained, and the rooms, bathrooms, and other spaces were welcoming, pleasant, nicely arranged, and very clean. ♥️

Portel may not be one of the most visited tourist spots, but it’s a great base for exploring the whole area. Ana Paula looked after us very well. Our room and bathroom were clean and comfortable, and this is absolutely a place I’d recommend.

The house is beautiful and so well cared for that we wished we could stay longer. Our rooms were comfortable, and the shared areas had plenty of books and other ways to enjoy the house. We especially liked the little tea room and the outdoor space. The complimentary lemonade with rosemary honey was delicious! Everything was fabulous. Many thanks to our host, and we hope to return!

A peaceful, welcoming house that’s great for sharing with family or friends. The cleaning is impeccable, and the decor shows good taste. It’s in a central part of the Alentejo, which makes it a good base for exploring the region any time of year or visiting the river beaches in summer. Recommended.

Casa Matriz is right in the heart of Portel, with a view of the castle and next to Igreja Matriz. Ana Paula, the owner, has decorated the house beautifully, and it has everything you need. The beds are excellent, and everything is high quality. It’s completely peaceful and comfortable. I came away from my stay feeling restored.
