For what we paid and expected from an Algarve holiday, VauHotel fell short. The kitchenette sink and drains weren't well maintained, leaving a sour, sulfur-like smell in the room. The rooms are old and dated, and our “suite” was just two single beds pushed together, which wasn't the honeymoon feeling we wanted. The Wi-Fi didn't work, and some power outlets were coming out of the wall or didn't work at all. There was also noise from trucks or maintenance at all hours. Pool towels were meant to be reused, and guests were discouraged from exchanging them. I understand being eco-friendly, but for a four-star beachside hotel, I didn't want to use a damp towel. At checkout, nobody asked how our stay was or thanked us. Instead, they sent us back upstairs to carry down our used pool towels, although we'd left them in the bathtub, as we do at nearly every hotel. I wouldn't recommend this place. There are many other wonderful places to stay in the area.

I recently stayed here as part of an Air Canada vacation package and had an excellent experience. The suite was far better than I expected and had two balconies. The front desk staff were very helpful, and the hotel is a short walk from the beach, scenic lookouts and restaurants. The hotel is fabulous, laid out well, and has a bar overlooking the pool. I look forward to staying here again.

The breakfast was wonderful, with lots of choice, and the chef cooked the mushrooms perfectly. The hotel also has a play area for kids, which is always appreciated. The staff were all so kind, friendly and welcoming; management should be proud of the team. About 30 minutes after I booked, the hotel called to ask how we'd like the two rooms set up and about my gluten-free and lactose-free preferences. We travel often, but have never had that level of service. Highly recommend, and we'd definitely stay again.

The receptionist was friendly and gave us good recommendations for things to do. The location felt very quiet, though a little unsafe because cars speed right around the corner. The lobby smelled of pool chlorine the whole time, and the building looked dated and in need of repairs in places. Our apartment also felt dated, and there were spider webs on the balcony.
