I wouldn’t recommend staying here for more than one night in Porto. We stayed six nights, and the smell was one of the biggest problems. There’s a strong musty, mildew-like odor as soon as you enter the complex. The room smelled bad too, and it seemed to get worse when the air conditioning was on. By the fourth night my throat was extremely sore. I suspect it was related to the smell or a lack of cleanliness. The room looks fine at first, with nice decor, a kitchenette, and a balcony, but it’s very cramped, with hardly any space for luggage or unpacked things. The cleaning seemed superficial, with lots of dust and a dirty rug. There was no hand soap in the bathroom, and toilet paper and towels were limited. When we asked for more paper or to have towels washed, we were told there’d be an extra charge. The room wasn’t tidied or cleaned during our stay. It’s also a very noisy complex, and the rooms aren’t soundproof. There’s no insulation on the roof, so gulls squawk all night as if they’re in the room. My husband and I had to buy earplugs. Take my advice and find somewhere else, especially for a longer stay. It’s really unfortunate, because we loved Porto apart from this stay.
The room was nicely designed and the location was great. It was calm and quiet, so we slept well. But the bathroom was much too small, with nowhere to put things or hang towels, which was a real inconvenience. Check-in at 4:00 PM is also quite late. I’ve stayed in better apartments in Porto on previous trips.
The smell was awful, probably from the plumbing, and I ended up buying scented candles to cover it. During our four days there, they gave us only two coffee pods and two rolls of toilet paper, which wasn’t enough. The staircase is narrow, and there’s no elevator. I’d strongly suggest fixing these things for a better rating. The room was small but had everything we needed. The kitchen was adequate, the bed was comfortable, the hot water was strong and hot, and the location was quite good. Overall, it was a good stay.
The location was convenient, but I found the city tax issue and check-in process badly handled. I booked through Agoda, then the day before arrival they suddenly said I hadn’t paid the city tax. They should’ve told me earlier. Sorting out how to check in took half a day of discussion. The system and management company are terrible, and I’d rather leave. The bed was clean, but it’s a rental villa, so there’s no towel change or cleaning like at a hotel. If you need service, it apparently costs 40 EURO. LOL. They should’ve told me earlier.
