Hotel Dom Henrique Downtown

The receptionist gave us a Porto Metro map and pointed out nearby sights we could reach on foot, and everyone we met on staff was really friendly. We were there over winter break for just two nights, but the clean, well-equipped room had enough heat and was very comfortable. The food and drinks at breakfast and in the bar were great, though bar service took a while. I’d definitely recommend staying here in Porto.

The upper floors may give you a nice city view. The rooms are spacious, and it’s a very good-looking hotel.

Breakfast is served in a pleasant area, and they have fresh-squeezed orange juice. We stayed in a two-room family suite with a lovely balcony. The rooms felt a little dated, as they have in most of the hotels we’ve stayed at in Portugal.

It’s a noisy spot, with loud traffic from the street, so bring good earbuds. We were surprised how quickly an elevator arrived, even with 14 floors, and the lobby has lots of seating and is nicely decorated. The staff were very helpful. Our junior suite was great: a separate large bedroom, firm but comfy mattress, sitting area, plenty of storage, and complimentary champagne. There are blackout curtains and the AC is quiet. Wi-Fi was strong and steady, handy for working. We really enjoyed our three nights here. The hotel is right in the city centre, two blocks from the main street’s restaurants, shops, coffee places, souvenirs and more. The riverfront and major attractions are about a 20-minute walk away. Breakfast was delicious, with a good range of breads and fresh juice, plus two coffee machines that made cappuccino, latte, espresso and other styles. The same items were served each day.
