We paid €405 upfront for a reservation through booking.com. On the morning we were due to arrive, an email asked us to send another €300 as a “security deposit” by private bank transfer. We offered to pay a refundable deposit using the card on file with booking.com, but told the property that a private transfer felt like a scam. The “host” then shifted the conversation from booking.com messages to text, leaving no official record for a complaint. Once we said we wouldn't send more money, they stopped replying. We went to the address and messaged again, even sending photos of us outside, but got nothing back. By 9pm we were wandering around Porto looking for somewhere to stay, with a false “reservation” and no help from the property. Booking.com has been no help so far, so our only option now seems to be disputing the charges with our credit card company. Don't book here unless you want to risk losing a lot of money and being stranded.

We never even made it to the place, so I can't recommend it. We used the “free cancellation” in March, well before the May cutoff for our booking, but the refund kept getting pushed back: first May, then June, August, October 12, October 26, and by January 30 it still hadn't arrived. They blamed a closed office, a sick person handling refunds, and being swamped with paperwork, while continuing to take bookings. Everything went through BOOKING.COM, so don't trust the sales pitch. A free cancellation policy is only worth as much as the accommodation's integrity, and flats4rent showed none. By September 2021 it was clear they never intended to refund us. Buyer beware, there are too many other places to bother with this one.

We booked through Booking for this summer, then cancelled because of the situation. We still haven't received the refund. I called the apartments many times and nobody answered; even Booking staff couldn't get anyone on the phone. They emailed to confirm the refund, but that was FALSE. They kept our money. Don't reserve here, they're thieves!
