The neighborhood was lovely and quiet, and getting to the places we wanted to see was easy. The location was a real plus. The mattresses were very comfortable too, though we missed having proper sheets. There was only a fitted sheet and a duvet, which didn't feel very hygienic. The apartment itself felt quite worn. The shower screen wouldn't close properly, the water control kept coming off, and the floor was very slippery. Maybe it was the cleaning product, I'm not sure. Wi-Fi didn't work, which made it hard to watch anything at night since the TV had no channels, just apps like Netflix. At night we heard the wood creaking, plus people using the stairs and going in and out of their apartments. Soundproofing was only okay at the door and street-facing windows.

The biggest problem came after our second and third nights, when my wife had lots of very itchy bites. We'd also noticed small marks on the sheets after the first night that looked like blood, but hadn't thought much of them. After asking people who know about this, including H. Santo Antonio, and looking into it further, we concluded the apartment had bed bugs. We called to complain, then waited several hours without hearing from the responsible company. They finally answered the next day and suggested the bites could have happened somewhere else. We paid €192 for September 8-11 at the Oporto Guest apartment, Rua Sa da Noronha 93, 1st Floor (Square). We'd gone in with low expectations because the photos didn't match reality, and accepted that time had worn down the furniture, bathroom, and furnishings. But paying for an apartment that was supposed to be completely demolished, then getting no empathy or proper response, was awful. Never again, and not just because of the infestation.

I came back for personal reasons, but I probably won't return. Our loft cost 60 euros a night, and the service was very poor. The girl checking us in arrived late. In the room, the bed was reached by a bunk-style staircase, the toilet had no handle, and the shower temperature swung sharply. There was also a beanbag that was almost completely flat.
