I expected a basic room, but at least hoped for a bed I could sleep on and enough heat or blankets. The bed was probably the hardest I’ve ever tried, and the two thin blankets weren’t enough in December with about 5°C outside. The wall heater was on when I arrived late, then got switched off soon after. A couple of hours later, the room was freezing. Sound carries badly too. I could hear everything, including couples arriving after midnight and making noise for hours. Eventually I gave up and left for Lisbon at 4 a.m., exhausted, cold, and sore from the bed. I also spent two full days trying to call to cancel, with no response. They only got back to me after Booking intervened, and said I couldn’t cancel without a fee because the free-cancellation deadline had passed. I understand I was technically responsible, but I’d contacted them just a few hours after the cutoff, several days before my stay, so I wish they’d shown some flexibility.

Dear management, The room itself was okay, but it barely seemed to get any heat. At night the temperature inside fell to 15 degrees. The bathroom was dirty, and we had to pay to get a towel. The worst part was check-in. We were told it was at 4 PM, but the receptionist said 5 PM, so we waited in the rain for over an hour. He was genuinely rude, and wouldn’t let us leave our bags at reception. The stay was really disappointing. I hope you read this and improve the facilities. Regards

Carlos at reception was so warm, welcoming, kind, and helpful that he put a smile on our faces. For the location and price, I’d give the place four stars overall. The room was worn, though. Paint was peeling in the shower, and there was quite a bit of mould between the tiles. It came off very easily when I tried to remove it, so it just needs attention. The balcony door was hard to open because its handle was coming off, and it wouldn’t close all the way. The mattresses were uncomfortable, and nights were noisy. The central location explains some of that, but bear it in mind if you want peace and quiet. It’s convenient and the reception is lovely, so the downsides are manageable for a short stay. Best to come prepared.

The room was very small, but fine for somewhere to sleep. The hotel was okay, and I didn’t mind sharing the bathroom and shower, though some people might. It gets loud at night because you’re close to the bars and nightlife.

Finding the entrance is tricky. Look for the restaurant-table photo and the little yellow Camino arrow by the hallway between the restaurant and gift shop. The sign sits high above the door, and there’s a button that rings reception upstairs. It’s inexpensive and modest. Toilets are shared, one per floor for four or five rooms, and all guests use the single shower on the third floor. There’s no elevator, so you’ll need to carry your bags. We stayed here while getting ready to walk the Camino, and the place is popular with pilgrims. Our room was 18, on the fourth floor, with another flight of stairs up to a loft, unofficially the fifth floor. The windows on both sides gave us a lovely breeze through the top of the building.
