Hotel Portinari

The staff were friendly, but that was about the best part. The hotel felt old and overpriced, the bathroom door wouldn't lock, the balcony needed painting, and only one plug worked. Breakfast was really poor. I ate there once, then went to a coffee shop or bakery less than five minutes away for a proper breakfast.

The overall feel is pleasant and the hotel seemed clean. The rooms are decent enough, with a small bathroom, though we didn't need more space. Even without using it, the air conditioning was there and the temperature stayed comfortable. I'd recommend this place. Our impression was quite good, and for us, a clean, quiet room and reasonably good service were enough.

The checkout came with several extra charges that hadn't been discussed when we booked, which was a nasty surprise. We also found the breakfast cold and bland, and the dining room felt more like a prison than a hotel. Our room smelled of pizza from the local restaurant, and the floor clearly hadn't been cleaned, since there was a grape on it. For a twin room, we expected some privacy in the shower, but there was no wall or door, just a transparent curtain. Check-in was frustrating too: the receptionist seemed blunt, lazy, and unenthusiastic, gave us the wrong keys, then accused us of trying the wrong room. I wouldn't stay again.

It's a middling hotel, and an old one. The staff are nice, but everything feels dated and needs refurbishing. The lobby could use more cleaning. People made a lot of noise at night, and staff should step in to stop that sort of thing.
