Hotel Porto Rico

I was traveling on my own, and there wasn't a kettle or anything like that in my room. The first morning I went downstairs for coffee before breakfast had opened, and a staff member helped me get one. When I got back from being out today, they'd left flowers, a kettle, tea, and coffee in my room. I hadn't asked for any of it. Brilliant service, thank you Hotel Porto Rico! 😍

I had to leave by myself at 2 in the morning, and I've never left a hotel like that before. I usually don't post reviews, but I can't let this go. I booked a single room on booking, where the rating looked alright, then later found the Google reviews. The room was filthy, with lots of hair in the shower and drain. The sheets looked like they'd been used for centuries, there was a strong mold smell, and it was extremely noisy. I asked for another room. It looked better, but was still so noisy that I thought I'd manage for one night. Within an hour of lying down, I was scratching all over like crazy. I didn't see bedbugs, but I'm pretty sure they were there. I left. Please don't go there.

This budget hotel is great value, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is its best feature, close to lots of things and convenient for the Metro. Our rooms were small but perfectly usable, and they were clean. The bathrooms were also small, but adequate. My one change would be to put curtains on the windows instead of just netting, so road traffic lights don't shine in.

The rooms are okay for what you pay, and the location is great.
