House of Artists

The location is good, though nearby restaurants can get noisy in the afternoon while they’re prepping. The room was very small, which I could live with, but the bedding was just a duvet with no cover. There’s no air con, and the fan was extremely loud and taped to the ceiling. No ceiling lights either. It felt really oppressive, and it was very basic for the price.

A few minutes’ walk from the main sights, the guest house is on a quiet street and makes a great base for discovering Porto. The interiors and furniture have an impressive modern design, and the accommodation is top class. Breakfast is a tasty buffet, so try the pancakes. There’s daily cleaning, and both the building and apartments use keyless entry. The owner loves contemporary art, photography, and Portuguese food. He and Sophia, a very kind and helpful Customer Manager, share a curated list of places to visit. Their hospitality made us feel at home. We highly recommend House of Artists and will certainly return one day.

The street seemed a little scary at first, but looking again, it had a lot of charm. House of artists was a great choice in the oldest part of the city. The bed and bathroom were good. João, the hotel manager, was very accommodating, maybe a bit too much at times, and gave us useful suggestions for places that suited us. We’d come back.

The hosts are welcoming and incredibly helpful, and the rooms are well designed. Ours had a small kitchen with a microwave, fridge, sink, and electric hob. The keyless code entry for both the building and rooms means there are no cards to lose or demagnetize. It’s close to plenty of bars and restaurants, but stays quiet at night.
